Is a Work-Related Injury Recordable?
Recordable
An injury or illness that requires medical treatment beyond first aid counts as a work-related incident for OSHA recordkeeping purposes. This includes any injury or illness that prevents the employee from working, needs medical attention and causes missed time off. However, an injury that is covered by a bandage or gauze pad and irrigated does not require recording. Giving an employee a tetanus booster is considered first aid, so it does not count as recordable. Other types of immunizations, such as rabies vaccine, also fall under the medical treatment umbrella and do require recordkeeping.
For a work-related injury or illness to be recordable, it must meet certain criteria as outlined in 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1904.7.
