With many major CD burners, DVD writers and CD-R writers available at retail outlets, it may seem impossible to get a hold of an application that is capable of copying the digital video data to a recordable disc. The standard, more expensive CD burners and DVD burners are more than capable of handling recording, copying and burning of disks, as they contain at least two modes of operation which allow you to record and copy data to the disc. However, some users need the flexibility of an application that will be able to record to an application independent of the software that is already in place. This is where free applications come into play. A very few applications for Macs will allow you to record video from the user interface of your application, including the playback functions that have been pre-installed on your Mac.
Recordable software allow the user to program the types of disk that are usable and the file that will be stored on the disk. This is advantageous when a disk is too large to be burned to a CD or DVD. Recording is only possible when the files are of a certain size. For example, if a user wishes to record their entire hard drive, the recorded videos will not be of high enough quality to be of any use to them, no matter how long the disc is. Recording an entire disk takes extra time and requires extra disk space on the computer's hard drive or a second storage device.
All files can be recorded onto a Disk that has been recordable for editing purposes, to enhance the experience of a video which was recorded using a standard application on a CD or DVD. Sometimes programs allow the user to load and restore a disk into a recorded state using the user interface of the application in place. There are also additional advantages of Recordable software on Macs, such as the ability to create live presentations which allow you to present information and interact with viewers on the platform.
